Dhaka National Medical College

53/1, Johnson Road, Dhaka-1100, Bangladesh

About College

The Dhaka National Medical College succeeds its illustrious predecessor, the Dhaka National Medical Institute, which was founded in 1925 as a part of the Indian Subcontinent's non-cooperation movement against British colonial rule. The Indian National Congress and the Indian Muslim League, led by Mahatma Gandhi, Mawlana Muhammad Ali, and Mawlana Sawkat Ali, jointly organized this movement.

In addition to other initiatives, the Non-Cooperation Movement pushed the subcontinent's citizens to build their own National Schools, Colleges, and Institutes for Modern Scientific Education in place of British government-established and run educational establishments. As a result, the Bengal Province created two medical schools to train national physicians of contemporary medicine. These medical schools were called the Dhaka National Medical Institute and the Calcutta National Medical Institute, respectively, in Dhaka and Calcutta.
